Day 1: Runway Tales from MBFWA

It’s showtime! The Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia (MBFWA) is officially on. This huge week has hit our shores again and bloggers, designers, media and brand-loyalists are flocking to each show. I’ll be attending the first three days and jam-packing as much fashion in before heading off to The Kimberley’s with Tim.

The first show on my agenda was Bianca Spender at the Carriageworks Theatre. If you haven’t heard of Bianca Spender – all you need to think is playful sensibility, modern styles and feminine definition. Bianca, the daughter of Carla Zampatti, never disappoints with her intriguing styles.

When choosing my outfit for the first show, I couldn’t go past one of Bianca Spender’s suits. I’ve been wearing suits ever since I got my first office job and I’m a sucker for a stylish two-piece. The crepe blazer I fancied because it elongated my torso. Sometimes I shy away from oversized designs because they can be unflattering however the snap hardware and black colour made this a stylish chic choice. I couldn’t resist playing ‘matchy matchy’ with a simple fitted slim leg pant to complete the polished suit look.

There wasn’t a lot of colour in my suit so I went for some blue peal hoop earrings to add some bling. When matching in my accessories I decide where I want the attention to be focused. I’d never wear oversized earrings if my outfit, shoes and bag were already over-the-top. In this case, my accessories added in a gentle sense of elegance.

A quick wardrobe change and the next pit stop on the fashion runway was Steven Khalil. This magnificent man was the beauty behind my sparkly number at the Logies this year. A large crowd re-assembled at the Carriageworks Precinct, to be mesmerised by his red carpet and bridal gowns. Nothing on the runway was short of utterly elegant and classically beautiful. Embellishment was key in all his pieces. The show was like stepping into an enchanted girly land with a string of elegant gowns floating around the room. Sparkles, detailed embellishment, tulle and high splits made common appearances among his STUNNING collection. Going backstage was one of the highlights of the day where I was able to hang with my babes Ksenija and all the other wonderful people making the show happen.

I wore a runway piece of Steven’s featuring a scoop neck blazer. The contrasting panels received a lot of attention. The dual colour in the jacket was so fresh and looked really polished. My silver heels from Stuart Weitzman added in a mix of delicate playfulness too.

The next show on the agenda was an old favourite, Sass & Bide. The duo returned to the catwalk after 14 years and the long awaited return lived up to our expectations. The resort inspired collection was directed by Mark Vassallo. There was strong evidence of the energy and vibrancy of Barcelona street life in all the garments. It had me watching and dreaming of my European escape in a few months time.

Another wardrobe change and I slipped into my Misha collection dress. In terms of accessories, I went a little out there. I capitlalised on the essence of Fashion Week where you can experiment and make some style choices which probably wouldn’t work in the 9-5 office environment.

So are you looking for the ultimate bag of the season? I think I found it! The Furla ‘Blow Up Bag’ sure did live up to my expectations. Playful and chic, this cheeky bag is also VERY CLEVER! It has a rear valve so air can rapidly inflate and deflate out. Not only does it look super cute, it is actually unbelievably practical when you are strapped for space in summer vacation luggage.

Finally after a long day, it is PARRRTTTTYY TIME for the MISHA x MYER party at Icebergs.
