The racing season is all about getting into the glitz and glamour trackside. Ted Baker’s #TedtoToe event at the Melbourne Emporium Shopping Centre was a great way to accelerate the hype . The night was packed full of shopping choices, DJ tunes, flowers and drinks.
These are my tips to put your best fashion foot forward:
Start with the millinery because in my books this shouldn’t be an afterthought. I encourage you to make a statement with your headpiece and work your outfit around letting it shine. Don’t shy away from something out there, because the races are one of the only opportunities we have to wear these fun little fascinators, headbands, tiaras and crowns! Of course, the classic wide brimmed hat adds sophistication to your outfit if you want something more traditional. I am a huge fan of the vintage vogue inspired racing hats for something that captures a little more attention.
Footwear must be edgy but also practical (there is nothing worse than foot aches on such a fun day out). Do not learn the hard way by wearing brand new shoes for the first time. You’ll never forgive yourself if you forget to wear them in beforehand. It is a long day of looking glam so you need your shoes to accommodate you looking the part all day. I am always one to bring sticky party feet if I need some extra support in my shoes.
In terms of the dress, choose a fabric that will stand the test of time for you. If you can find something you love, you will want to wear it again. My shopping philosophy is definitely skewed towards buying something where I can reduce my cost-per-wear instead of only wearing it once.
If you want a bit of faux-glow make sure you get your spray tan well before the day so you can shower the smell away.
Giddy-up and get involved with the fun of the racing season. Choose something fun to wear which is fresh, bright and bold.
