Adding a little luxe

Add a little luxe to your wardrobe with a silky slip dress. You don’t need to lash out on the expensive 100% silk fabrics these days either to pull off the trend. A silky look can be achieved for a fraction of the price if you know where to look.

I wore this white Bec and Bridge dress and fell in love with the angelic feel of it. If white isn’t your colour (or if you are good friends with fake tan) it also comes in a Tuscan sun colour (excuse me … I think Italy is calling me!).

So if you want to sport the silky dress thang, these would be my dressing tips:

1. As the silky finish can sometimes be associated with nighties and bed clothes… opt for a cut which exudes sophistication so you don’t confuse the outfit with something reserved for sleeptime

2. During the crazy time of fluctuating weather, choose a cut which can be worn during the warmer months and also something that works with a jacket. I’d usually choose something with a good neckline so my go-to leather jackets work

3. Choose a cut you love and work it for both the day and night. I’m talking trainers in the day and even add a cute tee underneath for that street style look. Wanna talk about versatility – just add on some heels for that fancy lunch or special date night out.

Short and simple

Silky dresses do an excellent job at walking the fine line between elegant and casual which can be so hard to find in a good day dress. The day-to-night option is always a plus when your not quite sure where your social calendar will take you.

Long and elegant

The Maxi length won’t disappoint. I love these styles because they work for the crazy weather changes we have been experiencing.

Nice on the price

For a fashion fix without the huge price tag, what about these great numbers. These pieces will let you still rock the trend without the pain on your back pocket.

Worth the pay check

While these are not so savings-friendly, if you deserve a little splurge get amongst these.

Add in some colour

Don’t be afraid to shake up the bright colours even more with a cute tee. Stay away from any big prints on the tee to let the dress be the focus point. Stick to a tee which is on the bodycon side to avoid having uninvited puffiness (save that for a ruffle look).

The layering trend also works if you have a thin jumper or pullover to create the same effect. Again stick to the fitted variety!
