Spring Carnival 2017What I Wore / Where I Went - Fashion Events categories: What I Wore Where I Went - Fashion Events
What a hectic few days it has been!
The 2017 spring carnival was whirlwind long weekend. A group of us celebrated Andrea’s birthday at Derby Day in Melbourne. We had an absolute blast parading around our finest black and white. The strict dress code encouraged creative monochrome combos from racegoers, celebs and racing royalty. It was a chilly Spring day but that didn’t stop the racetrack fun we had.
This year was all about crossing the fashion boundaries for me. I was styled by the incredible @lanawilkinson for both days. A big thanks to all the brands who pulled my outfit together and for letting me feel a million dollars. For Derby Day, I followed by the black and white dress code with an ensemble thanks to the following brands: hat by @ezaraj; jumpsuit @atoir_; bag @jimmychoo and earrings by @lindencook x @thecon_nection.
The entertainment in the marquee was first class. There were incredible dancers and performers creating a spectacle for us to all watch.
We made the most of the espresso martinis and flowing drinks. Sunday and Monday were set aside as designated recovery days, so we explored The Mornington Penisula.
It was pretty freezing again on Cup Day but no one let that dampen the mood. Crowds still packed out the famous Flemington Racecourse for a day of racing, fashion and fun.
It was a rather unsubtle colour choice for my ensemble. I had been looking around for some inspo but I knew I wanted to make a statement no matter what. My custom dress from the one and only, @rebeccavallance was just perfect. It was a fitted one-shoulder dress in a daring sunshine yellow. I couldn’t have felt as bright and beautiful without my millinery from @scanlanandtheodore . It was about raising the fashion stakes for me this year in the statement colour and the over-sized bow took things to the next level. The whole ensemble brought together a whimsical feel. I added in a bag from @fendi and my shoes were @ysl. We had another excellent day at Flemington on Cup dAY. One of my highlights was in the Mumm marquee. I love cutting the bottles and of course, the dance floor went off too.
WRAPUP OF MY TOP PICKS
The best outfits: were super colourful and fun for Cup Day (contrasting to the super sleek compositions on Derby Day). Nadia Fairfax had pink and red perfectly matched into her ensemble. Bec Judd wore an uber bright pink ensemble on cup day which had heads turning left, right and centre. The candy colours on these girls looked good enough to eat!
The best headwear: there was a lot of lavish headwear being debuted compared to previous years. Jen Hawkins had a bedazzled headband which I lurrrved.
The best handbag:The award for best handbag had to go to Kate Waterhouse. The hubba bubba pink was a standout for sure.
The cutest accessory: bows made a big appearance this year. Roxy Jackenco and Jodi Gordon both adorned their hair with oversized bows.
The best hat: I loved this wide brim from Nadia Bartel. The fashion forward hat had a sweeping brim, I’d have to give it a 10/10 on the classy scale.
The coolest shoes: Elyse Taylor had a strong shoe game and there was no doubt that her wicked heels meant business.
